Foundry equipment should be designed with the customer’s needs in mind to help them reach their goals. General Kinematics has worked with customers in the foundry industry for over six decades. We listened to feedback from customers about their existing rotary drums and eventually entered the market with our own, built using the same feedback to help reduce downtime and maintenance difficulties. GK has redefined rotary drum technology with its DUCTA-SERIES™ Rotary Foundry Drums, eliminating many shortcomings in old rotary drum designs.
Reduce Downtime with LOCK-TITE™ Rotary Drum Liners
Other rotary drum liners are sourced outside the U.S. and aren’t designed for safe and easy replacement. The grid system of other rotary drum liners are cast and interlock with one another. When castings damage a section of the grid, the entire grid from the discharge end to the damaged grid must be removed to access and replace the damaged area, which is a lengthy, dangerous, and costly process. Additionally, other liners are less efficient on screening and sand return because there’s less open area.
GK noted these problems and developed LOCK-TITE™ Liners to address them, offering a safer, more efficient alternative to conventional cast grid liners. LOCK-TITE™ liners are modular, bolt-in liner systems made from abrasion-resistant steel. Each liner system is fabricated in the U.S. to fit your drum and process, so we can easily change the dimensions to better suit your processing needs.
Replacing a damaged LOCK-TITE™ liner is as easy as unbolting and sliding a new panel. They can be installed quickly using simple hand tools, reducing time and labor needed for replacement. Installation requirements are limited to a smaller crew compared to other liners, and they can easily be installed in approximately 25-40% of the time of other liner systems, reducing your downtime. Check out this video outlining how LOCK-TITE™ liners helped a GK customer reduce maintenance costs.
Enhanced Design
GK rotary drums include several other critical design improvements based on feedback from our foundry customers. Tight spacing on cast grid liners results in jams and reduced performance, so the LOCK-TITE™ liners’ inner flighting was designed more spaced apart, preventing material from jamming inside the drum. The design also provides a more open screening area, enabling faster screening and sand return. We also offer optional body liners to protect the surface of the drum body from premature wear, extending its lifespan even further.
Replacement Rotary Drum Bodies Made Easy
If your foundry is looking to upgrade or replace its existing rotary drum, GK’s rotary drum bodies can be custom engineered and installed on your existing drive drain without requiring a full machine replacement and can include improved components like the LOCK-TITE™ liner system. We also configure the replacement body based on your processing needs.
A full GK drum installation provides even greater advantages, including a side-mounted drive system that places critical machinery at eye level, keeping it out of the sand and making maintenance more accessible. Optional modular construction allows for easier installation in facilities with tight access.
Rotary Drum Components Built to Last
Foundries are often subject to extreme temperatures and abrasives. GK forges the rotary drum tires and trunnion wheels used on our rotary drums using superhard alloys to give them a long service life and reduce wear and tear. The tires are also easy to swap out as needed.
When you choose a GK rotary drum, you’re actively investing in your foundry’s efficiency, safety, and long-term cost savings. While some competitors may offer lower-cost, value-engineered options, the reality is that these alternatives often lead to greater maintenance expenses and operational headaches. With GK, foundries gain a premium, high-performance solution designed to maximize uptime, streamline maintenance, and improve processing efficiency.
By upgrading to a GK DUCTA-SERIES™ rotary drum, operators can avoid the pitfalls of outdated designs and benefit from superior engineering that delivers lasting value and improved foundry performance.
